Fastening secondary mirror of an SC (Schmidt Cassegrain), if loose
How to reattach a loose secondary mirror on an SC (Schmidt Cassegrain).
In some models, the secondary mirror holder was attached to the baffle tube with adhesive.
A rubber or cork seal was inserted between them. If this seal is removed or becomes porous, the secondary mirror will loosen and can be twisted, affecting the image. The secondary mirror will then no longer sit exactly on the optical axis and will tilt. This will change the geometric alignment and cause image errors.
To repair this, the Schmidt plate must first be removed.
Remove any adhesive residue from the secondary mirror holder. Then fix it with a special UV adhesive. Very precise work is essential. Otherwise, the Schmidt plate will become distorted or the secondary mirror will be too loose.
Important:
Always ensure great cleanliness and, ideally, wear gloves.
Observe all markings and mark them with an adhesive dot so that everything can be installed in the correct position during assembly.
