Broken USB port on the Skywatcher Star Adventurer

We've received several Skywatcher Star Adventurers in which the USB power connector was damaged.

The Star Adventurer was knocked over because the user tripped over the USB cable. Since the mini mount usually falls onto this connector due to the impulse induced by the cable, the USB connector is ripped off the circuit board. This can even lead to parts of the circuit board being torn out with it.

 

 

The torn out areas can be seen at the bottom right.

 

These torn-out layers of the circuit board can be found on the socket.

Tip:

Instead of a regular USB connector, use a 90° angled one, as this usually won't pry the socket off the circuit board if dropped.

Unfortunately, the so-called MagSafe adapters are only available for micro USB, not mini USB.
