Carrying handle for the large Newton

Carrying handle for the large Newton

A large Newtonian telescope is relatively difficult to transport, as the tube is usually long and heavy. A carrying handle, strap, or band is more convenient.

To do this, purchase a strap about 2 meters long from a hardware store and clamp it between the altitude bearings; the ends of the strap are folded over (doubled) so they cannot slip out.

The center of gravity of the telescope is then exactly at this point and in balance. Now you can carry the tube with one hand, and open the doors with the other hand, or thread it onto the passenger seat or into the tailgate of a station wagon.
