Products description

AR 13668 + AR 13664 at 13_03 CEST with OMC 140 deluxe + ASI 178MC on 09-05-2024

The sunspot area is also not to be missed: Here, too, the adverse conditions of clouds and air movement couldn't prevent the image :-)
At approximately 200,000 km in size, it's an extremely large spot. And with constant outbursts of energy and mass ejections, it's above average! In 1859, Carrington discovered a similar spot that radiated and ejected so much that northern lights could be seen as far away as Rome and Hawaii. Furthermore, telegraphs in Northern Europe sparked, and the paper strips caught fire!

Since we are also "under attack" and a solar wind with plasma is moving toward us at 1004 km/s, there will be northern lights starting tomorrow (Saturday). (And more interference in the electronic realm? See satellites and so on...?)
Today (May 10th) there was another X-class outburst lasting a quarter of an hour. Magnitude 3.9 with ejection and a velocity of 1248 km/s.
There's more to come!

Equipment:
Telescope: OMC 140 deluxe (old model, calculated by Harrie Rutten, extremely good!)
Camera: ASI 178MC
Film: Baader visual
Mount: AVX by Celestron
Image taken with SharpCap and edited with AutoStakkert 3 and Photoshop CS 2 (20-year-old freeware :-)
