The mode of action of the Herschel wedge:

The sunlight comes unfiltered into the telescope. Only at the back of the device 4.6% of the sunlight are deflected at an angle of 90 °. The rest of the sunlight forms a focal point outside the Herschel wedge in the air. The energy of this beam is still very high, a direct eye is out of the question, even garment could be inflamed.

The Baader "Cool Ceramic Safety" Herschel Prisma offers the solution:

From space technology, this new material comes from special ceramics, which, similar to the tiles of the Space Shuttle, absorbs the radiant heat without heating up the environment. This allows the housing of the Herschel wedge to be kept closed. A glare hazard is prevented.

Easy positioning of the sun:

An elegant side effect of the lens is the trouble-free centering of the sun in the telescope. Gone is the squint straight into the sun. Simply center the stain in the middle of the disc and you can observe. (See picture above)

Effective 2 "eyepiece clip:

With a 15 ° rotation you fix each 2 "eyepiece or 2" adapter bombproof without lateral clamping and also perfectly centered on the axis for highest sharpness on the axis and in the field.

Baader Solar Continuum

The visual and photographic versions always come with the same Herschel prism. The difference is only the filter equipment. In the version offered here, the 2 "Solar Continuum filter is included, which allows a high-contrast observation of the sun's surface.

On which devices can the Herschel prism be used:
The Herschel prism is designed for refractors that have no fixed built-in lens at the back. It does not matter whether the lens is a two-lobed or a three-lobed one, whether it is with an air gap or is a cemented lens.

For all other devices, we recommend lens filtering - e.g. about the BAADER solar filter foil.
