The TLAPO804's focuser can be converted for left-handed use.
Time required: 15-20 minutes
Difficulty level: Easy
Materials required: 2.0 mm Allen key
1. Original assembly
The two outer screws secure the micro-reduction gear, while the two middle screws (or the lower right one) secure the ball bearing. Loosen these screws.
The upper right screw adjusts the contact pressure of the drive on the helical gear rack of the OAZ.
On the right, the screws, into which the Allen key is inserted, secure the ball bearing on the right; the outer screws have no function in this case.
Here is a detailed view of the ball bearing on the right:
When you pull out the drive (it has to be turned slightly due to the helical gear teeth on the pinion), the pressure plate falls out.
When the telescope is in the upside-down position, this plate faces upwards, i.e., toward the upper screws that were just loosened. Reinserting it is a bit fiddly, but then the small hole clicks into the small, innermost set screw at the top.
Note: I made a mistake in the photos. The knurled screw is always in the innermost hole on the micro drive side, and the small set screw is accordingly in the innermost hole on the normal knob side.
5. Removing the Ball Bearing
The ball bearing is still in its socket on the "normal" knob side. We also have to remove this and then reinsert it on the other side (i.e., on the left; the photo shows the removal).
Have fun with the conversion!
Yours, Karsten
