Experience and images of the Sun with the Dwarf 3

Good morning Mr. Kloß,

I am writing to let you know that the DWARF 3 telescope I ordered from you on June 5th arrived safely this past Wednesday, and I am absolutely delighted with the device. Although weather conditions only allowed me to take advantage of breaks in the cloud cover twice to observe sunspots, the images I captured exceeded my expectations for such a small, easy-to-use device. They compare quite favorably to the live visible-light photos from NASA’s SDO satellite available online. I am confident that lunar observation will also prove more than satisfactory once the night sky clears and the new moon phase has passed. I am particularly excited to try out deep-space imaging, especially since I live on the edge of a small town with some light pollution. However, conditions for that will likely only become truly optimal starting in the autumn and, especially, during the winter. Serious astronomers might turn up their noses at this device, preferring to look through an eyepiece themselves for superior image quality—though even they have to mount a camera to take photos. For a hobbyist, however, the DWARF certainly allows for more than decent photos taken right from the balcony, all while staying warm indoors. Plus, thanks to the integrated software, there is hardly any need for post-processing. For me, this device is a true all-in-one wonder. In short, I am more than satisfied with the telescope. All that remains is to thank you for the excellent transaction and the very fast shipping. I would be very happy to make another purchase from you in the future—perhaps a telescope for planetary observation, as the DWARF is naturally unsuited for that purpose due to its short focal length. Many thanks again; best regards and have a wonderful weekend,

Bernd Pfaff from Dillenburg

P.S.:

Dear Mr. Kloß,

Thank you for your reply; it would be an honor if you published the sun photo
on your homepage. I have also attached another photo from today,
along with the capture details and—for comparison—a photo taken
at the same time by the SDO satellite. It is slightly sharper than the
photo from Wednesday, though unfortunately it shows fewer sunspots.
On the other hand, the bright faculae on the right side are quite clearly visible.
This allows you to choose the best of the two images. Unfortunately, the file—
stacked from 100 exposures—is very small at just 100 KB, but it should suffice
for the web. The image quality would certainly be better if processed using
software like Siril or PixInsight, but I am just starting out in astrophotography
and still have a lot to learn. So, for now, the built-in DWARFLAB software
will have to do.

Best regards and all the best,

Bernd Pfaff
