Experience with Baader Hyperion Aspheric 31mm eyepiece on Skywatcher Skyliner 250P Dobsonian
Hello Mr. Kloß,
Yesterday I tested the new eyepiece on my Skywatcher 10" Dobsonian. The first impression was very good. First, I did a rough alignment in the viewfinder and then used the finder eyepiece. It worked as I expected with the Whale Galaxy (NGC 4631). However, the eyepiece requires a dark sky, which wasn't the case yesterday, probably due to the rising full moon or the weather. Nevertheless, it worked well.
I did notice something, however, compared to my Explore Scientific 2", 82°, 18mm: at the edge of the field of view, the stars aren't quite sharp on the Hyperion 72°, which isn't as noticeable on the 82° Scientific. It doesn't bother me much, since I immediately center the object I find in the middle of the field of view and don't observe the outer areas as intensively. I noticed it just because there was a bright star at the edge.
However, this doesn't affect my enjoyment of the eyepiece. It will probably be in constant use for all my observations.
I even used it with my old Skywatcher 90/900 refractor. That's when you really notice the quality of a good eyepiece.
Thank you for the excellent advice and, as always, the prompt delivery.
Best regards and clear nights.
Hans M.
