Hello Mr. Kloss,
I was able to test the Baader Hyperion Mark IV Zoom Universal Eyepiece 8-24mm 68° 1.25" / 2" over the weekend...simply fantastic!!!!!
The accessories and possible applications are very diverse:
The eyepiece can be used with 2" or 1-1/4" eyepiece mounts, which is very convenient, eliminating the need to switch adapters!
There's also a 1-1/4" Barlow lens with 2.25x magnification - this can be used in both 1-1/4" and 2" modes.
Two eyecups are included - "simple" and "adjustable," but that's a matter of opinion.
For observation... Skywatcher 200/1000PDS Explorer - Zoom eyepiece + 2.25x Barlow:
With this zoom eyepiece, you'll immerse yourself in a whole new world of observation!
I specifically chose difficult objects to test its performance...
- Double stars with 1-5" arcsecond resolution, e.g.: xi Boo, eps Boo (Izar), a-Her Rasalgethi, xi Sco...
- Deep sky objects M5, M13, M16, M17, M11...
- Moon
At 24-20mm, you get a good overview, good for Find objects; 16-8mm is excellent for resolving deep sky objects.
From an 8mm eyepiece focal length in combination with the 2.25x Barlow lens. Even double stars were resolved to 1 arcsecond – only with good seeing, of course!
Globular clusters and star clusters were resolved down to their centers!
With objects M5, M13, and M11, you can actually "count the stars" – countless glittering diamonds on black velvet!
The moon was imaged razor-sharply at every magnification –
At the 8mm focal length, but also with the Barlow lens, you get the feeling of floating above the lunar surface!
The eyepiece offers excellent resolution (125x / 281x magnifications), allowing you to see grooves, craters, etc., in detail that could only be vaguely perceived or blurred in other or my previous eyepieces.
At all focal lengths, everything is very clearly visible and razor-sharp – right up to the edge of the field of view.
The color reproduction of stars of different colors is also excellent at all magnifications.
Compared to Unlike other cheaper zoom eyepieces, this one offers 100% performance at every magnification -
So nothing stands in the way of a long, extended, and fatigue-free night of observation!
Thank you for your excellent advice.
Greetings from Herzogenaurach
Michael B.
