Experience with Skywatcher Startravel-120 OTA wide-field refractor
Hello Mr. Kloß,
Please excuse the delayed response. The telescope arrived safely. I'd be happy to give you some initial feedback, which you are welcome to use on your website.
The bottom line: I'm absolutely thrilled and very satisfied with the telescope. Thank you for your honest advice; you were spot on!
I'm not the type of person who spends a long time looking at an object—or even half the night—at it. I'd rather describe myself as a "visual skywalker," someone who likes to wander around aimlessly and look at interesting areas—even without knowing what they're looking at. So far, I've been doing this with the existing 1.25" eyepieces from Explore Scientific in 30mm (52°) and 14mm (82°). I'm saving the upgrade to an even larger 2" wide-angle for a while. Especially with the 82° 14mm eyepiece, the view is a real treat: needle-thin stars, a very slight and perfectly acceptable violet cast on bright stars, and an incredibly immersive feeling.
As discussed, it's mounted on my Vixen Porta II, which I've placed on a Vixen HAL-130 tripod. It's an absolutely solid and stable thing.
The red dot finder appears simple at first glance (and even upon first touch), but it does the job. It's probably not particularly robust. However, a red dot finder is definitely a better fit for the 120/600 StarTravel than a traditional optical telescope finder.
All in all... you get a lot of telescope for a very attractive price – and with you, you also offer great advice. Simply perfect!
Best regards,
C. S.
