We just got in the highly anticipated new Avalon Evo-Zero.
The EVO-zero was developed to counter the market introduction of mounts with "Harmonic Drive" gear system (already on the market and in preparation), it will be equipped with Avalon's exclusive "Belt Drive System" which has been improved (more stiffness), no clutch on both RA/DEC axes, less than 5 kg total weight.
The payload of the mount is about 13 kg, it can be used without counterweights or with a small counterweight depending on the setup weight, the overall compact dimensions are 210 mm x 286 mm x 110 mm.
The design of the base mount allows easy latitude adjustment from 0° to 90° and allows both equatorial and altazimuthal configurations.
Enough words, let's let pictures do the talking:
When we unpacked it, we wondered: Is there really a tripod and mount in this practical carrying bag? It seemed too light and compact to us.
In fact, the tripod is on top of the mount. We immediately noticed the practical handle, which makes lifting it out very comfortable.
The mount lies under an intermediate layer of padding.
Well packed with all accessories.
The tripod set up. Very stable and light.
Here is the mount itself. It's light (5kg), feels very high quality and can easily be carried one-handed. We were immediately impressed by the compactness.
For high precision, the adjustment screw can simply be placed in another hole. This is how the pole height is adjusted. Tip: make sure that the small slide that hangs on the screw does not fall out.
For comparison, we set it up right away with a CF-Apo 90. A very compact and stable setup.
The StarGo control, in this mount as an external module, is screwed to a tripod leg.
Here is the overall setup.
