Gluing of secondary mirrors simplified

After we have received whole series of Newtons whose secondary mirrors are glued on incorrectly, we have to glue them on again.

To glue a secondary mirror correctly, the so-called offset must be taken into account.

Mario Reisner has taken a lot of trouble and explained the adjustment of a Newton as well as the explanation and calculation of the secondary offset very well on his page:

http://www.seeing1.de/2a_justage.html

With the amount of secondary mirrors that have accumulated by now, the conventional method using recorded markings is not effective.

So a "stick-n-glue" device is needed.

This is what came out of the design and development process: a modular guiding system that is adjusted accordingly depending on the telescope.

What does such a process look like?

The basic body:

  1. Putting on a fresh cosmetic tissue, so that the secondary mirror is not scratched

  1. Inserting the mirror guide

  1. Inserting the secondary mirror. The adhesive surface was previously degreased and cleaned with isopropanol.

  1. Inserting the holder guide

  1. Cleaning the holder and applying the adhesive material. Silicone from a tube or special mirror adhesive tape, which retains its adhesive strength even at -30 °C, are suitable.

  1. And now wait patiently until the adhesive holds. With silicone about 2-3 days, with the adhesive tape a few hours.

We have developed this device for ourselves internally. However, if there is a need, email karsten@teleskop-spezialisten.de; we will find a solution (Please do not write to infp@teleskop-spezialisten.de, there is too much latency at the moment)
