If a refractor is not precisely adjusted, its image quality will not be as good as it could be. One cause of misalignment can be a tilted focuser.
On most refractors, the focuser can be aligned parallel to the tube and lens cell using the fastening screws. To do this, these screws are slightly loosened and aligned using a laser inserted into the focuser. Misalignment can be detected by a gap between the focuser and the adapter or tube.
The focuser should be adjusted beforehand, as some focusers tilt.
