Light bridges, flare areas and sunspots on the edge of the sun
These structures were clearly visible in AR 13684 - 13679 - 13674 on May 23, 2024. Conditions were not ideal—as they have unfortunately been almost exclusively lately—with clouds and turbulence. But with patience and a few attempts, you can exploit the gaps. Sometimes, something does come of it!
The bridge of light in the left sunspot is particularly striking. It spans the spot with real brightness. The flare regions are also clearly visible. Here, the limb of the sun offers good contrast due to its lower brightness compared to the center of the sun. Several bursts of energy came from this region.
