Orionid meteor shower 2019
The Orionid meteor shower reaches its peak on the night of October 21–22, 2019. It's also worth looking at the night sky on the surrounding nights.
When are the Orionids active?
The Orionids are active every year in October and the first week of November. During this time of year, Earth passes through the orbit of Halley's Comet, whose fragments burn up in the atmosphere as shooting stars. The peak of the meteor shower occurs around October 20 and 21 (see "At a Glance" for the best viewing night this year).
Another meteor shower, the Draconids, is also active in early October.
