Yesterday, our double mount prototype arrived for mounting two 127mm Maksutovs, allowing you to create an inexpensive binocular system with two commercially available telescopes. Often, you already have a telescope and want to upgrade to binocular observation.

We had two double tube clamps made from aluminum using waterjet cutting technology. One Maksutov is then firmly mounted over the prism rail, and the second Maksutov is inserted into a holder that is parallelized with three brackets at the front and back. This prevents double images and allows for easy adjustment of the congruity.

With the two telescopes, the entire aperture of both telescopes is now available for light gathering, an advantage over a binocular setup with just one telescope. The spatial impression is usually more intense.

The advantage of the Maksutovs is the longer focusing distance, so the tube does not need to be shortened.

If everything continues to work after more thorough testing and the good optical impression remains, we will also offer this binocular version for the 6" Maksutov and 6" SC telescopes. Upon request, we are happy to offer it for the smaller 90mm and 102mm telescopes.

Due to the greater distance between them, the 180mm Maksutov and 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes require a different design for the diagonals to achieve a sufficiently close eye relief.

The double mount for the two 5" Maksutov telescopes also works for the Evostar-120 refractors. However, the tube must be shortened in this case. 2" diagonals can then be used effectively. For the two 127mm Maksutov telescopes, we opted for 1.25" diagonals, as 2" tend not to be necessary. However, it could also be achieved with 2" diagonals.
