Relaxing lenses
In some lens cells, the lenses become distorted due to excessive pressure from the collimation screws or the retaining ring (which can be external or internal). Especially in lens cells with spacer plates offset by 120°, an overtightened retaining ring is usually the cause of distortion. Slightly loosening the retaining ring will reduce the pressure on the lenses. Care should be taken to ensure that the lenses are not too loose in the mount and thus cannot tilt. The distortion caused by the lateral adjustment screws can also be removed by slightly loosening the screws.
Caution: A very small rotation can have a significant effect, and the lenses can easily become misaligned as a result! The easiest way to do this is with an artificial star and with plenty of experience.
