Products description

The color of a meteor

The color of the light emitted by meteorites depends on their chemical composition.

Different chemicals in meteorites produce different colors as they burn up upon entering Earth's atmosphere. 🌎
Here are examples of which chemical element causes a particular color 👇
🟠 Orange-yellow - Sodium;

🟡 Yellow - Iron;

🔵 Blue-green - Magnesium;

🟣 Violet - Calcium;

🔴 Red - Atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen.

❗ By the way, the speed at which a meteor enters Earth's atmosphere can also influence its color. The faster a meteor travels, the more intense the color can appear.
