Products description

Today we would like to introduce you to astrophotographer Daniel Nimmervoll.

Hi Daniel, thanks for the interview. How did you get into astrophotography?

Hi Rudi, I've been fascinated by astrophotography since childhood. As a teenager, I already had a small telescope, and at night I would walk from window to window in my parents' house to look at all the "stars." I still remember vividly watching the total solar eclipse that was visible in Austria. I projected the sun onto a white surface and observed the natural spectacle. Then came the construction of our house, and money was tight for a while. So I had to wait a bit, and when it was financially possible again, I got back into it in 2019 with "larger" equipment. Back then, I had a Skywatcher Newton 200/1000 PDS on an EQ6-R mount.

Constantly setting up and taking down the equipment on the patio wasn't ideal, so the desire for a small observatory in the garden quickly grew. In 2020, I built one, which is very convenient. But the road to get there wasn't easy... I still remember how nothing seemed to work properly at the beginning. The tracking would just stop... sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 50. Video tutorials were scarce back then, and if they were, they were only in English, which weren't really helpful for me. When I finally reached the point where everything actually ran smoothly all night, I thought I'd share my knowledge. Similar questions kept popping up in the forums, and many people had similar problems. That was reason enough to start my YouTube channel about astrophotography.

Of course, I also had the idea of at least partially financing my hobby with it. My YouTube channel now has over 15,000 subscribers and almost 3 million views! This makes it the largest German-language channel about astrophotography. A huge thank you to all my viewers! The YouTube channel has also led to several collaborations with companies that provide me with equipment, sometimes free of charge or at least at a discount. However, I've always remained true to myself and never praise anything that isn't praiseworthy. If a product isn't suitable for a positive video, I inform the retailer/manufacturer and then I don't make a video about it.

Besides my YouTube channel, I also created my astronomy website back then. You can follow my online presence at www.astro-fotografie.at. This site also receives a lot of traffic, and Google ranks it quite well. Even standard deep-sky objects like IC 434 or Messier 101 appear directly after Wikipedia. Since 2021, my images have received awards from time to time. For example, some of my photos were featured on AAPOD2. Three of my images have also been selected as "Image of the Day" on AstroBin. With that, I'd like to thank Teleskop-Spezialisten for the interview and wish all readers clear, starry skies! I would, of course, be delighted if you visited my YouTube channel. Best regards, Daniel
