Hello fellow stargazers. There are inexpensive and useful tricks for tuning your telescope. Today we're talking about the aperture ring that we presented in Daniel Nimmervoll's video.

Our stargazer friend and photographer Norbert Achtelik ordered the aperture ring and shows how easy it is to install.

Norbert, how did the installation go for you?

Hello Karl and Rudi

Installing Daniel Nimmervoll's aperture ring was easier than expected.

There are now several 3D printers offering this aperture ring.

It's important to make markings beforehand,

so that reassembly is done in the same position as the seals were before installation (see the gaffer tape markings in the photos).

Tip 1: When removing and installing the mirror, absolutely avoid touching it with your fingers!

Cleaning the primary mirror is considerably more complex,
since it is not sealed and therefore very delicate.

If you're already removing the primary mirror, you should definitely take advantage of this opportunity,
as some sticky pollen tends to find its way onto the mirror, especially in spring.

But there's already plenty of information and videos on this topic on YouTube, such as:

Tip 2: Dust and pollen also accumulate inside the telescope tube over time.

These should, of course, be removed before installation,
as they can otherwise fall onto the mirror.

After thoroughly blowing off the dust, I used the sensor cleaning technique on the mirror,
since my mirror wasn't too dirty yet.

In my opinion, this worked well.

After reassembly, a new collimation is, of course, essential.

I'm happy to provide further information.

Best regards,
Norbert

I hope you enjoyed this post, and we'll be sharing more tips and tricks next week.
