With a Newtonian, it is important that the geometry of the primary mirror, secondary mirror and focuser is correct.
With a Newtonian, it's important that the geometry of the primary mirror, secondary mirror, and focuser is correct. Everything must be precisely aligned. Otherwise, the Newtonian won't produce as sharp and contrast-rich an image as it could.
Use a film canister, Chesire adjustment eyepiece, or Concenter eyepiece as an aid. This allows you to check the entire geometry.
Using a ruler, you can measure the center of the secondary mirror and, if necessary, adjust it with the secondary mirror struts. There are usually screws at the ends of the secondary mirror spider for this purpose.
If the secondary mirror is not in the center of the focuser recess, it can be moved and rotated using the center screw. Important: The secondary mirror is glued/attached with an offset.
With an eyepiece focuser, you can place washers under it if it is tilted, or you can move it by loosening the retaining screws so that the OAZ is in the center of the secondary mirror.
We check and adjust every Newtonian before shipping.
