Altair Hypercam 183C V2 Fan Cooled Color Astro Camera
This camera is an alternative to DSLR when it comes to astrophotography.

The SONY Exmor R BSI IMX183 color CMOS sensor was installed in this camera. The chip has a resolution of 5440x3648 pixels, so nearly 20 million pixels. As far as the number of pixels is concerned, the CMOS camera is one of the largest cameras currently available.

Due to the very low amplifier glow, the camera is ideally suited for astronomical applications. Due to the back illumination technology, the chip is extremely sensitive to light.

Version 2 has the following additional features:

♦ Temperature sensor with data output in real time
♦ ROI (Region of Interest) for cropping and therefore faster photography when shooting the sun, moon and planets
♦ 4K mode (cropped!)

Offer: One-year license for YEAR SharpCap PRO for free! Includes ultra-accurate pole alignment aid, deep sky object CMOS exposure optimization, EAA / video astronomy livestacking, darkframe, and flats. Just download the latest SharpCap, connect your camera, register it while patting the ad, and confirm your free license.

Easier than a DSLR, it also needs no "Astromodifikation". The Hypercam is much easier to use and focus than a DSLR, thanks to the live preview with the standard software AltairCapture and SharpCap. You see a faint star clearly and in real-time as there is no video compression in between. Also, you do not need to modify the Hypercam to capture details in the red hydrogen light because it simply does not give the filter that blocks this area. There are no heavy and cumbersome power connections that could loosen easily, and no mirrors that could cause vibration, but an output with real RAW mode. You get exactly what the Sony sensor "sees".

Low readout noise. The Sony IMX183 CMOS sensor has very low readout noise, high dynamic range and high sensitivity. In addition, the IMX183 ExmorR Back-Illuminated Sensor has a small dark current, no smear effect and excellent anti-blooming properties. BSI technology shifts the sensor electronics beyond the pixels, blocking some of the light, increasing quantum efficiency compared to CCD sensors and traditional CMOS chips.

4 GB DDR3 buffer RAM - USB3.0 speed and USB2.0 reliability:
USB3.0 and on-board buffering provide much faster transfer speeds than USB2.0 cameras, but if you, like many photographers, prefer to use longer and more flexible USB2.0 cables because they are connected to a USB2.0 cable. Hub more reliable work, so that's no problem! The Hypercam is fully compatible with the USB2.0 protocol. Just install the software and get started!

Quality software and drivers include:
AltairCapture: Unlike cheaper camera manufacturers, Altair Astro has spent a lot of time improving the AltairCapture software with its many features and intuitive operation, and can download it from cameras.altairastro.com. AltairCapture is a stable 64-bit Windows application that allows full control of the camera in video or single-frame mode. It contains many automatic functions and supports all important file formats for astrophotography and professional scientific image acquisition in 16bit, 12bit or 8bit modes. Furthermore, the popular programs PHD Guiding, SharpCap and Firecapture are also supported natively. ASCOM drivers are available for download at cameras.altairastro.com for regular driver updates. The installation is very easy and you do not have to waste time with the optimization of .DLL files, in contrast to cheaper cameras, just so that the camera works as expected.

SharpCap PRO:
Altair Astro has worked closely with SharpCap developer Robin Glover since 2015 to fully integrate the Altair cameras into SharpCap. Now, with this camera, Sharpcap PRO offers even more features, such as software-assisted pole alignment (more accurate than most other methods), live flats extraction, and live subtraction of dark frames. The fast, accurate pole alignment feature in SharpCap PRO is a lifesaver for photography, which saves construction time.

Cooling via fan:
The Hypercam is cooled with an internal, low-vibration fan. It can be switched on or off via AltairCapture and SharpCap, but the speed can also be adjusted with these programs. Cool air is drawn in through the vents on the side of the case, past a large internal heat sink. This is directly connected to the sensor, much like a computer CPU. The air flowing freely through the housing cools not only the sensor, but all internal electronic components. Cooling is particularly desirable for long exposures to reduce thermal noise. Some camera bodies become uncomfortably warm during a sun photography session and the sensor can reach 60 or even 70 ° C. This can make the electronics prone to failure and unreliable. The Hypercam is designed for consistent, reliable sun photography using a sun filter or Altair Sun Wedge (Herschelkeil). When the fan is running, the case of the Hypercam will always remain cool.

autoguiding:
The camera has an ST4 autoguider connection and can be used to autoguide with mounts from all major manufacturers supporting the ST4 format, including iOptron, Celestron and Skywatcher. The IMX183 is more than sufficiently sensitive to autoguiding.
