The Flatfield Box (FFB) is used to generate "flats"—calibration frames essential for the precise calibration of astrophotographs. It enables the removal of vignetting (darkened edges) as well as shadows cast by dust particles from the image. This is not merely an aesthetic requirement; only a perfectly "flat" image can be stretched sufficiently to reveal faint signals. As a result, contrast can be boosted more aggressively without the background becoming blotchy, allowing even the faintest extensions of the celestial object to become visible.

Key Features of the FFB:

Highly color-neutral light: The color channels are saturated to equal degrees, providing the ideal foundation for successful flat-fielding—even when using narrowband filters. 
Extremely uniform illumination: Significantly superior to conventional flat-field generators, which often still exhibit faint variations across the surface and at the edges. 
The LEDs do not flicker at the mains frequency; this allows for the use of significantly shorter exposure times—such as 1/500 of a second—without the risk of a "shutter" or banding effect.
Emits only about 10% of the brightness found in many other models, ensuring they are not too bright even for highly sensitive CMOS and CCD cameras.
The innovative round foam mask ensures a secure fit on the corresponding telescope tube; simply place it on top, press down, and the tube slots right in.

The Flatfield Boxes feature a standard 12-volt power connection (5.5mm/2.1mm jack, center positive) and are supplied with a vehicle power adapter (cigarette lighter plug cable). Technical Specifications
