Product Description
A flat-field mask generates a white surface with a defined brightness level. Simply place the mask over your telescope's optics and capture an image of the white surface. By taking this so-called "flat-field frame," you can map the exact brightness distribution of your optical system and subsequently correct brightness gradients in your astrophotographs during image processing.
The mask should be used under the exact same conditions—and with the same optical setup—as your actual astrophotography exposures. Consequently, the mask is designed for mobile use and can be powered accordingly.
Thanks to LED technology, it is possible to generate a truly white surface—devoid of any color tint. Since the illumination is flicker-free, short exposure times are also easily achievable.
This hinged LED flat-field panel ensures uniform illumination for telescopes with an objective diameter of up to 120 millimeters, guaranteeing precise flat-field frames for astrophotography and photometric applications. The hinged lid can be positioned at any angle between 0° and 270°, allowing it to serve dual purposes: as a flat-field panel and as a protective cover that shields the telescope optics from dust and moisture. To this end, the FlatMaster is equipped with a special silicone flange that creates a light-tight and dust-proof seal.
The FlatMaster allows for stepless adjustment of the panel's brightness. You can save specific brightness settings for each individual filter and instantly recall the desired value whenever needed. The FlatMaster Neo is capable of reaching exceptionally high brightness levels, effortlessly supporting short exposure times (e.g., 2–3 seconds at f/7) even when used with 3nm narrowband filters. A single USB-C cable powers the FlatMaster and enables its control. A manual button allows you to open and close the lid.
The device features a dew heater that actively removes moisture when operating at full power, thereby ensuring a dry, dew-free surface. This prevents water droplets from accumulating between the mask and the telescope lens after the lid is closed. An integrated temperature and humidity sensor automatically adjusts the heating power based on the calculated dew point. You can enable or disable this feature as needed, or manually set and save the heating power level. An integrated light sensor further enhances automation by automatically closing the lid at sunrise.
The device features integrated Wi-Fi, allowing you to connect and control it either via its own Wi-Fi hotspot or as a client within an existing network. Control can be managed via a smartphone.
The FlatMaster is supported by ASCOM 7 and ASCOM Alpaca.
