The ASI485 is a state-of-the-art color camera for photographing the moon and planets. The very fast Sony sensor with a diagonal of 12.86 mm also allows the photography of nebulae, star clusters and galaxies. The ASI485 is ideal for use with high resolution telescopes, such as APO and ED refractors or high speed Newtonian telescopes. The images from the Sony sensor are very low noise and offer high resolution.
Very high sensitivity for short exposure times
One advantage of the back-illuminated CMOS sensor is lower readout noise and improved sensitivity. In particular, Sony uses STARVIS™ technology in the IMX485 sensor, which provides excellent low-light visibility. You can achieve very high sensitivity in astrophotography and realize high image quality even in visible light and near infrared.
Combined with the wide field of view offered by the large sensor format, the ASI485MC is not only ideal for solar, lunar and planetary imaging as well as EAA (Electronically Assisted Astronomy), but can also be used as a live streaming camera or as an all-sky camera for observing or monitoring weather conditions, and of course for imaging faint nebulae, star clusters and galaxies.
The HGG mode:
The camera has a built-in HCG mode that can effectively reduce readout noise at high gain and maintain the same wide dynamic range you would expect at low gain. When the gain is 80, the HCG mode automatically turns on. This results in readout noise as low as 1.5e- while the dynamic range can still reach nearly 12 f-stops.
