♦ Suitable for all Skywatcher EQ6 mount and all mounts with the same tripod connection, like EQ6-R, AZ-EQ6, NEQ6 and also Celestron CGEM.
♦ The beams can be separated from the center pier, thus transporting becomes easier.
♦ The stability is comparable with the one of a massive stainless steel tripod.
♦ Longer telescopes can be rotated freely.
♦ Rollers allow easy transportation of the entire telescope on flat surfaces. Simply roll the telescope out of the garage.
♦ With the levelling screws at the outer ends of the beams, the rollers can be lifted from the ground and the pier gets a solid stand.
The pier from Skywatcher provides good stability and, besides that, is also transportable. Compared with the tripod, the pier has some advantages:
♦ Longer telescopes can be rotated freely. Thus, for example, exposures can last far beyond the meridian, without flipping the mount. With a tripod, the telescope will eventually touch one of the tripod legs.
♦ By using the levelling screws, proper levelling can be accomplished without physical effort, even at full load.
♦ Especially helpfull when using in the garden - you can easily roll the fully set-up telescope out of the garage on flat surfaces and use it immediately. Once set-up, simply rotate the levelling screws downwards until the rollers leave the ground.
♦ The pier is less suitable for use on soft ground like lawn. Here the tripod is clearly better suited.
