Herschel wedge for professional sun observation and sun photography in white light. For refractor telescopes with up to 150mm aperture and 2 "focuser complete system with built-in ND3.0 filter.

Herschel wedges are designed for observing the sun in white light. About 95% of the sunlight is faded out, the rest is further attenuated by a fixed ND3.0 gray filter. Lunt Solar Systems uses a closed housing with integrated light trap. So no side or downward leaking sunlight, so very safe.

The difference to lens sun filters is that the filtering takes place just before the eyepiece or the camera. In general, the contrast and sharpness of the sun image is higher with a Herschel wedge than with a lens sun filter.
In addition, a Herschel wedge is safer than a lens sun filter. He can not tear like foil or get holes, nor be accidentally pushed by the telescope opening.

Only usable with refractors up to 150mm opening:
Since the full solar energy enters the telescope and the filtering takes place just before the focal plane, we recommend only refractors (lens telescopes) for working with Herschel wedges. The refractor must also have no back corrector lens. Optical elements, such as corrector lenses or the mirror of a mirror telescope, would be heated so much by the concentrated solar energy, that a damage can not be excluded.

Regulation of image brightness:
Since the Herschel wedge produces polarized light, a simple polarizing filter is sufficient, which is screwed into the eyepiece or into the photo adapter. Turning reduces the brightness.
Polarization filters are not included, we recommend the BRESSER 2 "polarization filter 4946465.
