Prototype test PST40 Mod 2 conversion kit

Nach langer Entwicklungszeit ist es soweit: First light mit dem neuen Umbausatz für das Coronao PST40 H-Alpha-Sonnenteleskop.

 

Für den Testaufbau wurden folgende Komponenten gewählt:

    Skywatcher Evostar 102/1000, um 80 mm gekürzt, um das Etalon des PST 200 mm objektivseitig vor den Primärfokus zu setzen; der Original-OAZ wurde beibehalten
    DERF 90 mm Engergieschutzfilter von Baader-Planetarium
    3D Gedruckter DERF-Halter (mir fehlten die Gewindeeinsätze, daher das perfekt improvisierte Klebeband)
    Adapter 2” auf Etalon
    Adapter Etalon auf TS-Optics Heli2 OAZ
    Adapter Heli2 auf ITF & Blockfilter des PST40
    Adapterringe T2, um auf 55 mm Backfokus zu kommen

 

Der Backfokus wurde mit 55 mm definiert, um auch DSLR einsetzen zu können.

Test 1: How important is the position of the etalon relative to the primary focus?

The positions of OAZ 1 are adjusted in 1 mm increments. The etalon is not adjusted, as otherwise the sweet spot (area of ​​optimal seeing in the image) would change. The image is focused using OAZ 2.

Result:

The position of the etalon must be precisely positioned to within 1-2 mm, as otherwise the sweet spot will be negatively affected.

TODO:

The optimal position must be determined and documented for each adjustment.

Test 2: What is the performance of the setup?

Images are taken and checked using Sharpcap and Autostakkert3!


Fun fact: I actually just wanted to take test images and run a series of tests. But I've been sitting in front of the monitor for hours now and I'm impressed by the image quality.

I'm a fan of the Solar-Spectrum Sundancer II, but I'm really enjoying this setup…
