Celestron CGX – Equatorial GoTo Mount

The CGX Mount: The new standard for mobile astronomy and astrophotography!

The CGX is an equatorial mount designed from the ground up; with a load capacity of 25 kg, it meets high standards while remaining designed for mobile use.

New product design:

♦ The saddle plate sits closer to the Right Ascension (RA) axis. This reduced leverage ensures greater rigidity and improved vibration damping. The Declination motor also serves as a counterweight.
♦ Integrated handles make the CGX very comfortable to carry. The tripod can also be easily folded without removing the accessory tray. The tripod leg clamps are positioned on the inside, preventing your trouser legs from snagging on the knobs. Notches in the tripod legs allow you to quickly and consistently set your preferred leg extension length. The new, improved tripod features a wider stance, making it even more stable.
♦ Motor cabling is routed internally within the mount; only the hand controller and power cable remain exposed. The connection points for these two cables are positioned so that the sockets do not move with the mount. Overall, this design eliminates tripping hazards and the risk of cables being torn loose.
♦ Large knobs are provided for the two axis locks, the azimuth adjustment, and the polar axis adjustment. The polar axis tilt can be adjusted even under load, without needing to release locks that might otherwise shift the setting when retightened.
♦ The mounting saddle also features large knobs that are easy to operate while wearing gloves. The saddle accepts dovetail bars in both Losmandy and Vixen standards.
♦ The CGX can track objects up to 20° past the meridian. An automatic stop prevents the mount from rotating continuously, thereby avoiding collisions with the tripod and preventing internal cable damage.

Outstanding Mechanics:

♦ Upgraded high-torque motors ensure smooth startup and tracking, even with heavy loads.
♦ The belt drive ensures rapid response and minimizes backlash—the play often noticeable when changing direction. The mount starts up smoothly, free from the jarring screeching sounds associated with pure gear drives.
♦ A spring-loaded mechanism maintains consistent pressure between the worm gear and the worm shaft. This reduces friction and optimizes the drive's performance.

Improved Electronics:

♦ Optical encoders track the mount's position. This allows the mount to return to its home position at any time and enables the motors to stop before the mount reaches its mechanical slew limit.
♦ The new control software was jointly developed by Celestron and PlaneWave Instruments. This ensures highly accurate GoTo performance and offers additional benefits, particularly for remote operation.
♦ The CGX comes equipped with the latest NexStar+ hand controller, featuring a USB port for easy PC connectivity. An internal clock saves your last observation location and time settings.
♦ Two AUX ports allow for the connection of additional accessories, such as the SkyPortal module. An autoguider port is also included.

Thanks to the All-Star Polar Alignment feature integrated into the controller, you do not need a polar scope. You can simply perform a rough alignment of the mount and then fine-tune it using any star. The mount's superior mechanical design allows for this even when fully loaded. GoTo initialization—or star alignment—is also a breeze with all new Celestron mounts.
