Returned item: Askar 103APO 103mm f/6.8 700mm Apochromatic Triplet APO Refractor

Description: LINK

After extensive preparation, Askar is launching the new Askar 103APO, designed to make a powerful astrograph accessible to more amateur astronomers, allowing them to explore the mysteries of the universe to their heart's content without worrying too much about the price.

The Askar 103APO has a 103mm aperture, a 700mm focal length, and a native OTA focal ratio of f/6.8.

In astrographs, the aperture size has a significant impact on observability and image quality. The 103mm aperture offers an inherent advantage in terms of light-gathering power, resolution, brightness, and contrast, enabling the photographer to capture more light and reveal more detail and brighter objects in the image.

The Askar 103APO utilizes a triplet air-spaced APO lens design, including a piece of ED glass.

An APO (apochromatic) telescope is a type of telescope with the ability to correct chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration is a common optical aberration that results in colored edges or blurring at the edges of objects in an image. Other telescopes have relatively simple optical designs and are prone to chromatic aberration, especially at high magnification or during observations where color accuracy is required. However, APO telescopes use special optical designs and multiple lens elements to correct chromatic aberration, which naturally results in higher quality object detail and color accuracy.

In the element structure of a refractor, increasing the number of lens elements and designing lens combinations can effectively improve the correction of chromatic aberration. However, this also means increased production costs and design complexity.

ED glass, also known as low dispersion glass, is a type of optical glass specifically engineered to reduce chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration occurs because light of different wavelengths is refracted differently when passing through a lens, resulting in color separation and a degradation of image quality. ED glass possesses special optical properties that help reduce stray light and effectively minimize chromatic aberration.

The Askar 103APO not only features a triplet lens design (while budget astrographs on the market typically use doublets), but also incorporates ED glass to further enhance image quality.

In addition to the meticulously crafted lens itself, every aspect of the Askar 103APO is designed to provide users with a superior imaging experience.

The entire interior of the Askar 103APO's dew shield is lined with frosted felt, while the inner walls of the main tube are coated with frosted paint and equipped with an internal baffle. This effectively reduces light scattering and reflection within the OTA, thus improving the brightness, contrast, and resolution of observed targets.

Each Askar 103APO telescope is equipped with a unique name ring for identification, making each telescope exclusive to its owner.

The retractable dew shield, along with the enlarged locking screws, ensures convenient use. The dew shield protects the lens from the effects of external and internal light, thus safeguarding the lens itself.
