A 150mm aperture refractor with good image quality – that's the dream of many amateur astronomers. Until recently, 150mm aperture refractors were instruments reserved for public observatories or for semi-professional amateur astronomers with their own observatories. Skywatcher has made it possible for us to offer this astronomical telescope at a truly attractive price.

Observation:

This telescope is an excellent instrument for observing objects in our solar system. Under calm atmospheric conditions, Jupiter's moons can be seen as discs of varying sizes. Mars reveals the finest structures, and the swelling and shrinking of its ice-covered polar caps can also be observed. The moon is covered with tiny grooves, furrows, and craters, where smaller apertures would simply show smooth surfaces. For magnifications of 120x and above, we recommend a Baader "Semi-Apo Filter." This filter minimizes the chromatic aberration inherent in achromatic optics, further enhancing the clarity of detail. Deep-sky observation with this refractor is a true delight. Faint nebulae are just as visible as... Globular clusters beyond our galaxy, which are resolved into individual stars. We strongly recommend using 2" wide-field eyepieces; only then can you achieve the true sense of depth when viewing large deep-sky objects. Under "Recommended Accessories," we offer a 2" kit that unlocks the full potential of this refractor in terms of field of view.

Photography:

Whether photographing objects in our solar system, for example with digital cameras, or taking long exposures of faint nebulae, this refractor delivers exemplary performance. For deep-sky photography, however, we recommend nebula filters, which further reduce chromatic aberration and make the stars appear smaller.
