The advantage of aspherical eyepieces:

Basic Erfle eyepieces—often sold under various names at relatively low prices—offer significantly less edge-to-edge sharpness. Rays passing near the edge of a lens are refracted more strongly toward the center than rays closer to the optical axis. This results in increased blurring toward the edges, particularly in uncorrected systems.

Aspherical correction in an optical system remedies these various imaging errors. Sharpness is maintained across the entire field of view, and distortion is minimized. Furthermore, the eyepiece can be manufactured to be much more compact and lightweight.
