Losmandy AZ8 double azimuth mount for heavy telescopes

Scott Losmandy is known for designing and manufacturing precision mounts. The AZ8 is no exception. Like all Losmandy fixtures, the azimuthal AZ8 is made entirely of black anodised aluminum with stainless steel fittings. Exact needle roller bearings in combination with high-quality 7075 aluminum alloy worm wheels produce smooth, precise and easy-to-adjust movements. With two fine motion buttons, both axes can be precisely moved within a range of 360 °. Laser-engraved, safe and easy-to-read graduated circles with a diameter of almost 90 mm make it easier to find them.

The AZ8 with its two-sided telescopic mount has an impressive load capacity. Properly balanced, each side can hold 16 kg, giving a total load of 32 kg. The motorless design, in combination with the two telescopic connections, makes them the best choice for demonstration and teaching purposes. For comparison, attach an H-alpha telescope on one side and a white-light filter on the other, or attach one port with a small refractor to the camera and the other with a larger refracor or smaller Cassegrain, to take several short shots to observe visually - great for the moon or sun photography.

Versatile and easy to transport, the Losmandy AZ8 provides a universal prism clamp on both sides of the head for the secure connection of prism rails to Vixen or Losmandy standards. The head and tripod each weigh a light 6 kg and are compact, whereby the tripod can be retracted to 74 cm in length. The aluminum tripod has a 15 cm column top to keep attached equipment away from the tripod legs. An integrated circular level and movably mounted tripod feet facilitate an exactly horizontal and fast installation. The tripod can be easily extended to 117 cm height.
