Cheshire collimation eyepiece 1.25" metal - for Newtonians and refractors
Alignment eyepiece for Newtonians and refractors - Cheshire 1.25" ... enables a clean adjustment of Newtonian telescopes and refractors
The Chesire is the classic adjusting device for Newtonians and refractors.
Light is directed into the beam path by a brightly polished aluminum wedge, which was cut off at a precise 45° angle. The state of collimation can then be seen immediately from behind through a small opening. A crosshair is also attached to the front end of the Cheshire. So you always have a precise view, parallel to the optical axis.
The chesire has a very wide working edge. As a result, an exact stop is always defined, even with slightly larger 1.25" focusers.
Newton mirror telescopes: Insert the alignment eyepiece like an eyepiece, turn the side opening towards the light and look through the small hole at the top end. When the crosshairs and the reflection of the secondary mirror are exactly on top of each other, the device is adjusted.
Refractors: The state of collimation of a refractor can be seen immediately, as many rings are visible as the telescope has lenses separated by an air gap. Usually there are 2 rings. If the rings are nice and concentric, then everything is fine. If the rings are clearly separated from each other, the lens should be readjusted.
