The 48mm T-adapter is the tool of choice if you want to attach your full-frame DSLR or astronomical camera to a Celestron EdgeHD tube. As DSLR CCD chips continue to get larger, Celestron has developed this 48mm T-Adaptor to reduce vignetting and allow greater light transmission to your camera's sensor to produce exceptional astro photos.

The standard T-adapter for EdgeHD 9.25", 11" and 14" comes with a 42mm T-thread for a 42mm T-ring. This smaller 42mm T-adapter trims the one from the back of the The 48mm T-adapter has a larger opening so that the light can illuminate the entire sensor unhindered and push the capabilities of your full-frame sensor to the limit.

Below you will find the difference between the 42mm and 48mm T-rings to give you an idea of the passage that the 48mm thread offers in contrast to the classic 42mm T-adapter.





Note: Celestron does not sell their own 48mm T-rings. The Baader Protective CANON DSLR T-Ring T-2/M48 and 2" with the M48 spacer ring for MPCC III / Protective EOS T-Ring offers the M48 thread and maintains the ideal working distance of 55mm to the sensor. The 48mm T adapter offers no advantage for astrophotographers with smaller APS-C sensors.

For this, Celestron still recommends the 42 mm T-adapter #820758 and 42 mm T-rings for your specific camera model. T-rings are sold separately. For the 42mm T-thread we offer the Nikon T-Ring #820834 or Canon EOS T-Ring #820831.

The table below shows the relative illumination of the sensor in a 42 mm and a 48 mm T-adapter. The X-axis shows the distance from the center of the camera sensor. The Y axis is the amount of light that is received. As you can see, the 48mm diameter allows more light to reach the sensor than the 42mm T-adapter, reducing vignetting in your images.
