Products description

Starizona HyperStar V4 for Celestron C8 SC Telescope with Adapter

The HyperStar V4 turns your Celestron C8 Schmidt Cassegrain into a fast 200 mm f/1.9 CCD telescope for astrophotography.
♦ Suitable for all Celestron C8 Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes which are suitable for FastStar - not suitable for Celestron EHD telescopes

♦ New improved version V4

♦ The 200 mm f/10 SC system becomes a fast CCD astrograph with 390 mm focal length and focal ratio f/1.9

♦ The Hyperstar system is used instead of the secondary mirror

♦ Focusing is still done via the main mirror of the telescope

♦ Due to f/1.9, the exposure times become so short that autoguiding can be dispensed with

♦ Distance to camera sensor: 39.8 mm including external thread

♦ Illuminated and corrected field of view - 28 mm diameter

♦ The Hyperstar for C8 is only suitable for astro cameras and mirrorless system cameras, SLR cameras have too long a working distance.

Starizona Hyperstar adapter for astrophotography with Celestron SC and EHD telescopes.
With the Hyperstar you can transform your Schmidt-Cassegrain or EdgeHD telescope from Celestron into a fast astrograph. Astrophotography becomes an experience and has never been easier. Within 30 seconds, thanks to the Hyperstar, you will achieve a comparable result as without the Hyperstar after more than 12 minutes. This increases the efficiency of your camera and telescope many times over. In just one night, you will achieve a depth of field for which you previously needed many nights. Blurring due to air turbulence or tracking errors are also a thing of the past. The image will be sharper overall with less effort.

How to mount the Hyperstar to your Schmidt-Cassegrain:
Carefully unscrew the secondary mirror from the mount. Avoid twisting the Schmidt plate or the secondary mirror mount in the Schmidt plate. Then simply screw the Hyperstar into the thread and the conversion is complete.

The manufacturer offers various information about the HyperStar in English on its tutorial pages, including:

♦ compatible equipment
♦ current technical data (the PDF links are dead, though).
♦ detailed installation instructions
♦ example instructions for telescopes without polar altitude cradle
♦ example instructions for telescopes with polar altitude cradle

The advantages of the Hyperstar Version 4

♦ Even higher light intensity with f/1.9
♦ Even smaller sharper stars
♦ Easier adjustment
♦ Larger illuminated and corrected field of view of 28 mm

FAQs about the Hyperstar:

♦ Question: How is focusing done when photographing with the Hyperstar optics?
Answer: Quite normally via the main mirror, as in the standard version.

♦ Question: Can I also observe visually through the Hyperstar optics?
Answer: No, because the observer's head is then BEFORE the Schmid plate. The obstruction would be huge.

♦ Question: How annoying is the mirror shifting during focusing?
Answer: By having the secondary mirror removed, the 5x magnification of an f/10 SC system is eliminated. This means that mirror shifting also has 5 times less of an effect. Mirror shifting is no longer a problem as a result.

♦ Question: How good is the imaging quality?
Answer: The quality is comparable to that of an astrophotographic RC system, the resolution is adapted even for semi-professional cameras like the ST-10 from SBIG. The stars are much finer than with f/10.

♦ Question: Is the obstruction by the camera not disturbing?
Answer: Obstruction is not as critical for photographic applications as it is for visual observation. Therefore, for example, almost all professional reflecting telescopes with several meters diameter have a much larger obstruction than a SC with hyperstar and DSLR.

♦ Question: What about the collimation of the hyperstar optics?
Answer: The Hyperstar optic is collimated once the first time it is used. Changing the Hyperstar back to the standard version does not require re-collimation because the nominal secondary mirror is screwed out as an adjusted complete unit and then screwed back in again.

♦ Question: Are there any disadvantages to using the Hyperstar optics?
Answer: Yes, you will not want to go to bed on clear moonless nights.
