Instructions for assembling the NT Baader Diamond Steeltrack®
to an 8" Newton telescope in nine easy steps
Remove the current focuser
Remove the screws and long washers from the BDS-NT Diamond Steeltrack® focuser
To drill the new fasteners, loosely screw the BDS-NT into place using the old screws and the old holes
Open the eight M3 hex screws on the VersaBase and remove the focuser
Center the VersaBase over the old main hole using the old screws
The VersaBase has four slots for longitudinal adjustment of the focuser. Make a 5mm diameter hole in the middle of each slot, exactly in the direction of the center of the tube
Place the round V2A pressure pieces over the elongated holes and fasten them from the inside with the screws provided using a 3mm hex key
Remove the old screws. The VersaBase is now adjustable in the longitudinal direction (15mm) and minimally in the centering for your purposes
Attach the BDS-NT Diamond Steeltrack® with the drive shaft in the desired position and retighten the eight M3 hexagon screws on the VersaBase

Long backing strips
Using the long backing strips from the Baader VersaBase
for different tube sizes
Our assembly instructions listed above were created for an 8" Newton - you do not need the included washers for this instrument. For other tube diameters, use our long washers between your tube and the Baader VersaBase (the base of the BDS-NT Diamond Steeltrack). You win thus up to 4mm in height. Please note the gif below.

General characteristics of the Baader Diamond Steeltrack® (BDS) focusers:
Drive system
Real diamonds form a high-precision, micronized gear - never before realized in this form
In contrast to conventional Crayford or rack and pinion drives, the micronized gearing of the Diamond Steeltrack ensures completely play-free movement, completely free of slipping and torsion
2" Diamond Steeltrack focusers raise a load capacity of 6kg vertically in the basic setting, without slipping and without strong bearing preload (this can be increased if necessary)
The bearing system includes indestructible, 10mm wide roller bearings instead of narrow ball bearings - this allows heavier loads to be carried with maximum precision and torsional rigidity (completely without Teflon)
1:10 reduction gear made of stainless steel, prepared for optional Steeldrive motor drive using the toothed fine drive button for the Steeldrive timing belt
Removable drive block for left- or right-handed fine focusing and for connecting the temperature-compensating Steeldrive motor block
Shortest mechanical design, while maintaining the optimal balance between the shortest overall length (= gain in back focus) and the greatest possible rigidity
"Zero-Shift" axle brake to adjust the braking effect depending on the instrument load - without pressure on the extension tube
A variety of adapters are available for the shortest possible connection of (almost) all common camera/eyepiece types
Various telescope adapters

Clamping system
Focus-side S58 universal ring dovetail clamp for holding S58 direct adapters T-2 / M48 / M68 and other optional adapter threads, for the shortest possible thread connection of accessories and cameras
Focus-side 2" clamping device with bronze clamping ring (length: 12.5mm) included in delivery
optionally available: 2" Baader Clicklock clamp with integrated S58 dovetail (length: +16mm)
RT & NT focusing tube: two auxiliary threads (M60x1 and M55x0.75) for installing suitable field flatteners or coma correctors / telecompressors
Baader RT Diamond Steeltrack
Roller bearings individually adjustable for precise adjustment of the mechanical and optical axes
Ultra-hard, cold-coated bearing tracks - precision milled and much harder than anodized or steel
55mm free inner diameter, for vignetting-free imaging with anti-reflective sawtooth inner surface
