TS-Optics 2" MONORAIL M90 focuser
The TS Monorail focuser for 6" and 8" RC telescopes from TS-Optics, GSO and AstroTec as well as several refractors from Skywatcher is a further development of the proven Crayford focusers. Our goal was to offer an eyepiece focuser for the highest loads, such as heavy CCD cameras, while at the same time offering very high accuracy. This is exactly what has been achieved with the monorail pull-outs.

The MonorailM90 has an M90x1 connection thread with a depth of 7.5 mm and a 360° rotation on the telescope side. This allows connection to various telescopes and is ideal for hobbyists. Telescope Service also offers an individual adapter solution for those who do not have access to a lathe. The matching article is called Sonder-M90.

The advantages of the TS Monorail focuser at a glance:

How the MONORAIL extract works and its advantage over Crayford extracts:

Instead of small ball bearings, as with Crayford pull-outs, a solid stainless steel rail takes care of the storage and lateral fixation.

The disadvantage of ball-bearing Crayford extensions: The small ball bearings of the Crayford extension are stressed when clamping. In addition, since the clamping screw is not exactly between the ball bearings, one pair of the ball bearings is subjected to greater stress. The result is a tilt and blurred stars in one corner.

The advantage of the MONORAIL principle: The function of the ball bearings is carried out by the stainless steel rail, which is permanently connected to the extension tube. Nothing can change there anymore. Only the lateral guidance is still provided by ball bearings. However, these bearings only fix the lateral position and no longer have to absorb any load.

The extension tube is fixed using a clamping screw that is exactly centered on the top. This means that the entire structure is evenly loaded. There is definitely no more twisting, the extension tube remains 100% in the prescribed position.
