Products description

Baader Classic Ortho 18mm 1.25 "planetary eyepiece (HT-MC)

Baader Classic Ortho 18mm 1¼ "eyepiece, 52 ° field of view, foldable sidelight
Parfocal eyepiece series with very high transmission
Offers very high contrast and therefore an extremely clear, completely distortion-free image
The modern, real high transmission (HT) and multiple coating on all air-glass surfaces provides a remarkably brilliant image with extremely low internal reflections
Baader Classic Ortho / Plössl (Q-Turret) eyepieces
HT-MC coated, plug diameter 1¼ "
Parfocal eyepiece series with very high transmission, very high contrast and thus an extremely clear, completely distortion-free image. Due to the multi-coating extremely low internal reflections. The eyepieces offer a 50 ° field of view, sharp field stops and excellent ergonomics for a comfortable viewing experience.

Classic construction of an orthoscopic eyepiece
The optical unit is formed by a plane-convex eye lens and a triplet element, thus only four glass air surfaces. All the inside are blackened very well and effectively suppress the occurrence of stray light. In addition, the hard anodized socket has an internal thread to hold filters.

A look into the eyepieces shows a non-reflective anti-reflective coating and blackened lens edges. The compensation of our ortho eyepieces is so good that you get the impression that there are no lenses in the eyepiece body. We cannot find any difference on the optical bench with up to 5x more expensive so-called pure planetary eyepieces.

The same type of glass and the same optical design as for the former orthoscopic Zeiss Jena eyepieces are used for the eyepieces.

The 32mm Plössl eyepiece is the perfect overview eyepiece for telescopes with a 1.25 "focuser; eyepieces with a longer focal length do not offer a larger field of view.

Baader Classic Ortho / Plössl eyepieces as projection eyepieces
To achieve the high focal lengths required for planetary photography, simple Barlow lenses often offer too little magnification. The alternative is the classic eyepiece projection, especially to increase the effective focal length by a factor of four or more. The Classic Orthos together with an OPFA (eyepiece projection focal adapter) provide the necessary high magnifications. In addition, orthoscopic eyepieces are known for their good sharpness on the axis and high transmission - ideal for planetary observation. This enables sharp planetary images even at very high magnifications.

With an OPFA, the magnification can be set very flexibly via the distance between the eyepiece and the sensor. Information on the calculation of the resulting focal length can be found in the description of the OPFA system. For the best results and the highest resolution, we recommend the Fluorite Flatfield Converter (FFC / 3x-8x), which is specially designed for projection photography instead of the eyepiece projection.

The Classic Plössl with its large eye lens is very well suited for afocal projection with the ADPS (Afocal Digital Projection System) and a compact camera with lens - the large camera-side lens reduces vignetting, so that a larger area of the camera sensor can be used. The low magnification and the resulting large field of view make this combination very attractive for photography of the moon or sun surface (the latter only with suitable sun filters).

The slim housing of the classic eyepieces with a diameter of less than 35mm fit easily into the common projection adapter and can also be used visually at the binocular attachment without space problems.
