Most telescopes come with one or two simple eyepieces in a set, which do not maximize the performance of the optics. Moderate contrast and sharpness, a small field of view and poor viewing behavior quickly spoil the fun of observing the sky. A distinction is made between the series with "fixed focal lengths" f = 5mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, 21mm, 24mm, the two large aspherical eyepieces 31mm and 36mm and the Hyperion Zoom eyepiece with a continuously variable focal length from 8 to 24mm.

The word fixed focal length is in quotation marks in this short description because the modular structure of the eyepieces enables you as a user to change the focal length. The fixed focal length Hyperion eyepieces are multifunctional eyepieces.
Wide range of possible uses
Connecting cameras and camcorders

The Hyperion eyepieces have two system threads at the top (“eye side”). To expose it, either the eyecup and/or the large silicone thread protection ring must be removed. On the one hand there is an M43 external thread and a second one with SP54 external thread.
The M43 thread (system thread 1) is used to connect T2 accessories, e.g. for normal eyepiece projection. To do this, a transition ring (Hyperion M43/T-2) from M34 to T2 thread must be inserted between them.
The SP 54 thread (system thread 2) is used to connect digital cameras or camcorders where the lens cannot be removed (so-called afocal projection).

Focal length variability and filter use

The Hyperion eyepieces can be opened using the M48 (filter) thread at the upper end of the chrome-plated 1¼" eyepiece socket. The first lens group is located in the socket. This is unscrewed together with the socket and the eyepiece is connected directly to the telescope in a 2" eyepiece clamp , you get an overview eyepiece with a long focal length and maximum field of view.
By inserting a 2" filter between the 2" and 1¼" receptacle, the opposite effect occurs: the focal length becomes shorter and therefore the magnification higher. Furthermore, astronomical 1¼" eyepiece filters can of course be screwed into the 1¼" receptacle of the eyepiece.

For further focal length modification, our fine tuning rings (FTR) are available with 14 and 28mm lengths. You can see the different possible focal lengths when removing the first lens group and in combination with filters and fine-tuning rings in the table above.

Stop ring (#2958097): Another “smart” accessory for our Hyperion eyepieces is the stop ring. It can be used to determine the insertion depth of the eyepieces so that each eyepiece immediately produces a sharp image when inserted into a 2" diagonal mirror.

Hyperion fixed focal length eyepieces on the Zeiss Diascope spotting scope

The Hyperion fixed focal length eyepieces can also be used on Zeiss Diascope spotting scopes. To do this, you need the BAADER Diascope eyepiece bayonet 1¼" adapter (#2454500) for connecting 1¼" astro eyepieces to the Zeiss Diascope spotting scopes. It is pushed over the 1¼" socket of the Hyperion eyepiece and fixed to the socket using 3 small clamping screws. The Zeiss bayonet connection is ready on the Diascope spotting scope, so that the complete unit of Hyperion eyepiece and Baader bayonet adapter can be inserted directly into the Zeiss spotting scope .
Baader Phantom Coating® Group

Baader Phantom Group Coating is a 7-layer broadband anti-reflective coating with extremely low residual reflection. The term “Group” indicates that the most effective anti-reflective coating system has been calculated for each individual glass type of lens used in the Hyperion eyepieces.

All of these different anti-reflective layers on each individual glass surface have been optimized so that they are most effective where the human eye has its highest night sensitivity - at around 520 nm - in the green range of the spectrum.

The best anti-reflective coating appears almost colorless: this proves that the anti-reflective coating is equally effective across the entire visible spectrum. Phantom Group anti-reflective coatings are - depending on the type of glass - almost completely colorless. This ensures that the least amount of light is lost for the night-adapted eye and that no scattered light can occur.

If a coated lens (eyepiece or objective) shows a strong green reflection when viewed directly from the front, then it is not a Baader Phantom Group anti-reflection coating! The intense green reflection is an indication of a less complex coating technology and it means that the most light is reflected precisely in the spectral range between 500-550 nm, i.e. h. is lost.
