Products description

Baader Morpheus eyepiece set (beginners) 3 eyepieces 4.5 9 14mm including case

Scope of delivery: In addition to the three Morpheus focal lengths (4.5 / 9 / 14 mm), the Morpheus® 76° eyepiece set also includes the Hyperion® / Morpheus® eyepiece case (#2454601, ¤80) and a Baader utility bag for small accessories (#2954201 , ¤10). The Morpheus eyepieces are individually packaged with the respective extensive accessories - accessories see item description.
Sharp stars right to the edge: The 76° field of view is unmatched by any other modern wide-angle eyepiece in terms of sharpness over the entire, flat field.
Long eye relief and suitable for binoculars: With the Morpheus you can observe more comfortably than ever before with wide-angle eyepieces
Minimal Distortion: Morpheus' optical design allows for exceptionally low angular distortion.
Photo/video adaptation: Just like the Hyperion eyepieces, the Morpheus are excellent projection eyepieces for photography using the M43 photo thread.

BAADER Morpheus® 76° wide angle eyepieces
Visual/photo and video - high-end for your telescope
The eyepiece is half the optics of a telescope - if you really want to push your telescope to the limit, good mid-range eyepieces will reach their limits. The Morpheus® eyepieces offer a sharp image up to the edge of the 76° field of view. The brightness and the richness in contrast open up a new dimension in eyepiece construction, these eight-lens eyepieces with Phantom Coating® Group are impressive when observing planets as well as deep-sky objects - also as a photographic projective.

The Morpheus® wide-angle eyepieces with a focal length of 4.5 to 17.5 mm are the perfect complement to your overview eyepieces: Even with the high magnifications, they each provide a larger, excellently viewable section of the sky than is claimed for many other eyepieces with a field of view of over 80 degrees . You see your target objects beautifully embedded in the stellar environment. In addition, thanks to the large field of (Dobsonian) telescopes without tracking, you can take much more time when changing the eyepiece. All Morpheus® eyepieces have 1.25" and 2" connectors with Safety-Kerf grooves. This means that a 2"/1¼" reducer is no longer needed on (Newton) telescopes with a low focus position, because the 2" barrel integrated in the eyepiece body saves approx. 21 mm of focus travel.

For observation with a binocular approach, there are no more suitable eyepieces that have been designed so consistently for use with binoculars with the same field angle, avoidance of vignetting and due to their shape and low weight. The built-in lenses are extremely large in relation to the slim outer diameter, so that a comfortable view is guaranteed even with very narrow eye relief with binoculars. You will not find an eyepiece with a comparable "space float effect". When viewed binocularly, the edge of the field of vision seems to disappear and you feel like you're floating in space. The field of view becomes visible even if the eye distance is too great. This is a coveted eyepiece property, especially in public observatories, in order to be able to offer inexperienced visitors reliable observation success.

Just like the modular Hyperion® eyepiece series with a 68° field of view, the 76° Morpheus® eyepiece series is also particularly suitable for photography, partly because the distortion is significantly lower than with the Hyperion® eyepieces despite the larger field angle. The M43/T-2 photo/video adapter #2958080 also fits all Morpheus® eyepieces. With this optional M43/T-2 connection ring, you can use practically any DSLR or system camera for classic eyepiece projection via the globally established system of T-2 bayonet rings and attach the eyepiece instead of a lens at the correct projection distance in front of the camera. An M43/SP54 extension ring is available for so-called afocal eyepiece projection, with the help of which every Morpheus® eyepiece can be mounted so closely in front of the lens of a large photo lens using the Baader SP54 adapter rings that both lens surfaces almost touch. It is precisely this precise distance control that ensures good illumination of the camera sensor with afocal projection.

Detailed instructions for photographic use can be found here.

Extensive scope of delivery:
Metal/Rubber - Eyecup: A metal ring with an M43 thread is incorporated into the foldable eyecup. This enables a soft and supple eyecup that can also be screwed tightly to the eyepiece.
M43 extension: All Morpheus eyepieces include an M43/M43 extension tube #2954250. This is used for extended adjustment of the eye relief as well as for connecting cameras with an M43 thread (e.g. Sony / Panasonic). The outer surface also serves as a holding cylinder for smartphone holders.
Eyepiece holster: The holster case with loop protects the eyepiece and can be used as a belt pouch he used or attached to the tripod.
Focal Length Index Clips: Attaches to the eyepiece holster and one or more of the six brackets is bent upwards to match the focal length being used. So you can find the eyepiece you want at night without looking and without a flashlight.
"Winged" Lens Shade: Soft and supple rubber eyecup with hinged lens shade. Outstanding stray light protection for binocular observation.
12-page manual: a new manual with many application examples and a list of all possible accessories (similar to the Hyperion manual) is included in the scope of delivery (also available under the "Downloads" tab)

The Morpheus® 76° eyepiece family

Scope of delivery of the Baader Morpheus® eyepiece series
Optical properties
Sharp stars right to the edge: The 76° field of view is unmatched by any other modern wide-angle eyepiece in terms of sharpness across the entire, flat field. On-axis sharpness and contrast match the optical performance of Zeiss Abbe II eyepieces, but over a dramatically larger field of view. Even with fast telescopes, the stars remain needle-sharp even at a great distance from the center of the image, without any disturbing field curvature
Long eye relief: With the Morpheus® you observe more comfortably than ever before with wide-angle eyepieces - they combine almost 20mm eye relief with the best optical performance in their class. Spectacle wearers can see the entire field of view, and with the Morpheus® binocular attachment you can enjoy the ultimate viewing experience.
Minimal distortion: The very complex design of the Morpheus® enables exceptionally low angular distortion. In this way, the moon and planets are not distorted as they move through the field of view, and the fields of view really correspond to the theoretically calculated value. Many manufacturers like to exaggerate the apparent field of view and use the edge distortion constructively to be able to specify a large "apparent" field of view in advertising. You'll see that the sight really matches what the focal length and field of view suggest.
Spacewalk feeling: We have tested numerous eyepiece types ourselves and paid attention to the wishes and impressions of other observers. We noticed that the requirements for wide-angle eyepieces cannot be reduced to the pure field of view. The immersion in the universe - the "spacewalk" feeling - does not occur equally with all eyepieces. Some 82° eyepieces have a narrowing effect, while others - sometimes even with a smaller field of view! - has the feeling of being right between the stars. We have found that two other factors play a role: the distance between the eyes (the greatly enlarged eye lens of the Morpheus® is absolutely necessary for this) and a comfortable viewing behavior without the "kidney bean effect" (this results from a combination of a large distance between the eyes and a counter optical construction tolerant of involuntary pupil movement). However, we also recognized that this spacewalk effect no longer occurs with a field of view well below 74°, because the field of view limitation then becomes too noticeable. With this knowledge, we developed the Morpheus® eyepiece with a 76° field of view, which meets all the necessary requirements to enable a real spacewalk feeling without an annoying edge of the field of view. Especially when using binocular approaches, you have the feeling of being completely immersed in what is happening.
Phantom Coating® Group: The Phantom Group multi-layer coating introduced with the Hyperion® eyepieces has been optimized again for the Morpheus® eyepieces and matched to the different types of glass.
Optimized apertures: Like all Baader Planetarium eyepieces, the internal apertures have been optimized using raytracing to effectively eliminate stray light and reflections.

Photography / eyepiece projection: Each Morpheus® eyepiece has an M43 thread at the top end, so that digital SLR cameras can be connected via appropriate extension rings for photography in eyepiece projection. The image on the left shows a Canon EOS camera on a Baader Diamond Steeltrack focuser.
mechanical properties
Optimized for binocular approaches: The housing is deliberately kept slim so that it offers enough space for binocular observation for every "nose shape".
Lightweight construction: The eyepieces were designed to be stable and weight-saving at the same time, not least for use on the binocular attachment. The hardest thing about the Morpheus® are the lens groups; the waterproof case is designed to be as lightweight as possible.

Foldable eyecup screwed to the M43 thread of the included M43 extension
Foldable eyecups: A metal ring with M43 thread is incorporated into the foldable eyecup. This enables a soft and supple eyecup that is also firmly screwed to the eyepiece can be. The second eyecup has a side light shade to protect against stray light and is primarily intended for use with binoculars. Both are designed for optimal comfort and eye relief for most observers - including those who wear glasses - and protect the M43 thread described overleaf. The M43 extension is used for extended adjustment of the interpupillary distance as well as for connecting cameras with an M43 thread.
Safety features: The 1¼" and 2" receptacles are equipped with the Baader "Safety-Kerf" anti-slip device. This creates a perfect compromise between smooth sockets and the notchy, wide locking grooves. The many small notches provide plenty of stopping points when smooth eyepieces are already starting to slip, while avoiding the problems of eyepiece tilting that can occur with an ill-placed locking groove. When you pick up the eyepieces, the large rubber ring with a waffle structure provides a secure hold.
Luminescent lettering: The lettering glows in soft green after the eyepiece has been exposed to light for some time or the lettering has been illuminated directly with a flashlight, for example. At night, you can immediately see which focal length you have in your hand.

Belt Holster: The holster case with loop protects the eyepiece and can be used as a belt case or attached to the tripod.
Photo/Video Adaptation: Just like the Hyperion® eyepieces, the Morpheus® are excellent projection eyepieces for photography. Each Morpheus® has a hidden M43 thread for connecting the Baader Hyperion® Digital T-Rings using our M43/T-2 adapter. In this way, practically every better camera can be screwed directly to the eyepiece, very stable and, if necessary, with a minimal distance to avoid vignetting.
