EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC Ultra Light Dobson 500mm f / 3.6 GENERATION II
Ultra Light Dobson 500mm GENERATION II - a telescopic handcraft handmade in HUNGARY and GERMANY

No type of telescope has changed amateur astronomy as much as the Dobsonian telescopes. Prior to John Dobson's presentation of the Dobsonian telescope, the vast majority of amateur telescopes consisted of small, primitive-mechanism lens telescopes - just enough to divine the polar ice caps of Mars or the rings of Saturn. Larger telescopes, such as Schmidt-Cassegrains, were reserved for a well-to-do clientele. The ingenious combination of simple but effective mechanics with the widest possible opening has given the Dobson telescope a unique triumphal procession worldwide. Nowhere do you get as much light for your money as with a good dobson. We have heeded the principle "Held together by gravity and driven by yoghurt power" (powered by gravity and powered by yoghurt energy) and created a completely redesigned modern dobsonian telescope with a lattice tube. The dismantling of the device allows trouble-free transport of this large device even in small cars - the structure is completely tool-free within a few minutes. The entire construction has been optimized for maximum rigidity and minimum weight. The combination of large height wheels with an optimized aluminum sandwich construction allows the finest correction movements at the highest magnifications. The focus position has already been prepared for the use of our Komakorrektor (Item No. 0510330). The ideal workhorse for the deep-sky observer. A device with 500mm mirror diameter collects more than 5100 times as much light as the naked eye. Details on planets are also visible to inexperienced observers, and countless deep-sky objects show structures and even color. Bright star clusters are resolved to the core, and the sight of the Terminator on the moon becomes an unforgettable experience.

The fast 20 "f3.6 primary mirror as well as the large 120mm secondary mirror are made of high quality quartz material, which reduces the cooling time to a minimum and the Dobsonian is ready for use quickly. Each main mirror comes with an individual optical test certificate All optical surfaces have a high-quality aluminum coating with 94% reflectivity and an extremely resistant quartz protective layer, which means that the main mirror will withstand frequent dewing and cleaning every now and then Damage and guarantees a long life.

A complete redesign of this Dobson was required to ensure the significantly increased rigidity and load bearing requirements for optical components. All connections of the tube structure were made by TIG welding and rivets and screws were omitted. Thus, we succeeded in producing this 20 "lightweight Dobson so incredibly torsionally rigid despite the low weight - a noticeably good quality is second to none. The production of almost all mechanical components takes place at our partners in Hungary and the final assembly of the optics plus final quality control takes place in Germany at the Rhede site.

The equipment details of the smaller Dobson models, which have been popular for years, were of course taken over and even significantly expanded. First, of course, is the very good disassembly and transportability. Without any tools, the assembly and disassembly can be done. The main and secondary mirrors are adjustable during observation and only two setscrews have to be moved. Through the use of precision ball heads in the main mirror cell and a precision hinge for the catch mirror recording, the adjustment works absolutely smoothly and guarantees excellent adjustment stability. All connecting parts of the Tubusstreben are now made of CNC milled aluminum and are accommodated by fit screws made of stainless steel without play. The secondary mirror can now also be adjusted by adjusting screws in the direction of the optical axis. The 2.5 "HEXAFOC focuser with 1:10 fine adjustment is used for years - this allows vignette-free observation despite the fast opening ratio.A second 40 ° offset mounting plate with viewfinder shoe allows the rotation of the tube top in conjunction with a The 6 legs under the Rockerbox provide a high level of stability and ensure smooth azimuth tracking, while the 4 smaller fans mounted on the side of the mirror box and a large fan installed under the main mirror allow for even faster operation Adjustment to the ambient temperature and reduce boundary-layering (see-through) The side elevation wheels can now be easily stored in the foam inserts of the mirror box.

Last but not least, a special gimmick: The optical tube including mirror cell is mechanically designed for operation on a heavy Equatorial mount!

Transport dimensions for mobile use:

Rockerbox 678mmx678mmx347mm; Mirror box 590mmx590mmx361mm; Bar length approx. 1084mm; Viewing height in zenith approx. 1.63m; 20 "total weight: 53 kg; 20 "mirror box with height wheels: 35,8kg; 20 "top with secondary mirror: 3,8kg; Bottom part Rockerbox: 10.6 kg; 20 "4 strut pairs: 2,8kg; Weight main mirror: 20 kg

NOTE: The current product photos show the prototype. At the suggestion of our customers, numerous improvements have been implemented that still require updating.
