The Grand Dobson is still transportable, but certainly represents an upper limit for many dar. The weight of the tube, with only 20kg is quite moderate there. Thanks to the large opening and the forced 97% HILUX mirroring, this device already begins to see in color, not only with stars and the brightest fog objects.

The Dobson is delivered with a 8x50 viewfinder (straight). The focuser is ball-bearing and picks up 2 "and 1.25" eyepieces. There are always two Plössl eyepieces (25mm and 10mm focal length)

The 2 "Crayford focuser of the Deluxe Dobsons

Each Orion Dobson Deluxe comes with an accurate 2 "Crayford focuser, including a reduction for 1.25" eyepieces. The extract is made of solid metal and allows an exact and above all wobble-free focusing. With about 50mm height of the extract is particularly kurzbauend and allows a relatively small secondary mirror and thus a high Schärfeleistung the devices.

Optionally available is also a 1:10 micro reduction for the extract

The reflectivity of the mirror

Each mirror of the Orion Dobsons Deluxe is provided with a forced mirror layer with 97% reflection. This gives you a much brighter picture compared to normal mirrored systems. You gain about one inch of opening for the collection of light.

The quality of the main mirror

ORION attaches great importance to the quality of the mirrors. Each mirror of the Dobson Deluxe has a guaranteed accuracy of 1/6 lambda p / v wave. A STREHL value of better than 0.95 is also guaranteed. A Zygo test protocol with evaluation is enclosed with each device.


Each ORION Dobson comes with a computer-optimized 9-point skin mirror cell

What is optional with the manufacturer is always with us. The computer-optimized main mirror cell offers a very adjustable holder.

The main mirror is relaxed, so you can enjoy the high optical quality, which is guaranteed, even in practice. Of course, main and secondary mirror cells are fully adjustable.

The upgrades must be specified when ordering, a later retrofitting is not possible.

The Rockerbox made of aluminum

Especially the rocker box made of aluminum is a special advantage. They are stiffer than most conventional wooden rocker boxes. Nevertheless, the weight is much lower.

- Due to the reduced weight, the rocker boxes are significantly more portable.

- Within minutes, you can completely disassemble and flatten the Rockerbox.

- Due to the Teflon bearing a particularly sensitive adjustment is given, even with the highest magnifications you get the object always centered exactly.

- Due to the particularly large height wheels a good and even height adjustment is given.
