Skywatcher Skymax-180 Maksutov-Cassegrain on light mount EQ5

♦ opening 180 mm / focal length 2700 mm

♦ Ideal for transport with a length of only 50 cm and a tube weight of only 7.8 kg

♦ Very good sharpness and contrast of moon and planets

♦ Easy focusing via the main mirror with sensitive mechanics

♦ Large opening even for weak nebulae and galaxies

♦ SC threaded connection, 2 "adapter, 2" zenith mirror and eyepieces are included

♦ The EQ5 mount with its stainless steel tripod provides a good base for the telescope and can be disassembled into easily portable groups with a maximum weight of 5 kg.

Skywatcher Skymax-180 Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope with equatorial mount EQ5
This mak is an outstanding telescope for the observation of the moon and planets, but also of faint fog objects, star clusters and galaxies. The large aperture of 180mm offers more than enough resolution for the finest details on planets and enough light for weak deep sky objects.

More field through 2 "connection
Especially for deep-sky observation (nebulae, star clusters and galaxies), 2 "oculars are an advantage at this focal length, and this Maksutov already has a 2" port. With the 2 "eyepiece TSWA38 you have about 1 degree of true field of vision in the sky, you get the full moon 2x in the field of view and can even observe extended celestial objects well.

Astrophotography by the Skymax 180
The Maksutov is the right telescope for the dedicated planetary photographer. The output focal length of 2700 mm is ideal for shooting large areas on the moon. With a 2.5-fold Barlow you can achieve the optimum resolution for the finest details on planets and the lunar surface.

The german mount EQ5:
The parallactic mount provides a stable base for the Maksutov.

The sturdy stainless steel stand keeps the mount and device low-vibration and with high stability.

♦ precise construction also for astrophotography
♦ transportable
♦ Prism terminal according to Vixen GP standard
♦ can also be used for other telescopes, e.g. Wide-field instruments
♦ expandable with Polsucher, drive or even GoTo

Practical information from telescope specialists ... The Maksutov-Cassegrain system

A Maksutov-Cassegrain, with a very short construction, offers an image quality that is very close to that of a classic refractor. The image is significantly better than that of high-intensity achromatic refractors of the same aperture, because a Maksutov-Cassegrain has no disturbing color aberration.

The Maksutov-Cassegrain is therefore an interesting alternative for star friends who value a sharp and high-contrast image and also need a short-built and compact device.

However, a Maksutov Cassegrain is relatively faint, the focal length is relative to the opening relatively long. Therefore, a Maksutov is a very good device for viewing the moon and planets. It will also perform very well in the field of star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. but it is not a large field device. Very large objects, such as the Pleiades, are no longer depicted in their entirety.

The optical system - see picture above:

Light falls through the anterior meniscus lens on the main spherical mirror. The errors of the spherical mirror are corrected by the anterior meniscus lens. This creates a well-corrected image on the axis and in the field. Another advantage is that the lens closes the tube to the front, creating a closed system. The sensitivity to temperature fluctuations decreases.

The secondary mirror throws the image in the direction of the eyepiece on the back of the tube. The secondary mirror additionally causes an extension of the focal length, similar to a converter in photography.

The sharpness setting:

Focusing is achieved by moving the primary mirror over a micrometer fine adjustment. This type of adjustment has considerable advantages, you save a Okularauszug that can yield and you reach a much wider focus area. Almost every conceivable accessory can be connected to the Maksutov.
