Skywatcher Esprit 120ED review

The Skwatcher Esprit 120 is one of the most popular apochromatic refractors for a reason.
Its image quality is outstanding both visually and photographically, as we have experienced ourselves on many occasions.

Stars are depicted with pinpoint sharpness and color neutrality, star clusters and double stars are clearly separated, and deep sky objects are depicted with high contrast.

Even in conjunction with a Barlow lens, in our case a Baader VIP Barlow 2x, we were able to observe the famous "Red Spot" and the bands around Jupiter with beautiful resolution.
Saturn, with its shadow-casting rings, was also clearly resolved.

Photographically, the Esprit 120, in conjunction with a specially designed flattener, can be used with up to full-frame sensors.

This makes the Esprit 120 natively at 840mm f/7 ideal for photographing double stars, star clusters, galaxies, galaxy groups, as well as smaller or distant deep sky objects, such as planetary nebulae.

When using the 0.77x reducer, also specially designed for the Esprit 120, the focal length is reduced to approximately 646mm with an aperture ratio of approximately F5.4.
The field of view is beautifully corrected/flattened for sensors up to APS-C without adversely affecting the color correction.
The reducer is therefore also ideal for photographing, for example, more extensive reflection nebulae or, in conjunction with narrowband filters, emission nebulae.

The Esprit is definitely not a high-speed astrograph, but astrophotographers with a little more patience can look forward to relaxed image processing without having to laboriously correct annoying image or color errors.
