SynScan (TM) cable break easily repaired with a network cable

A simple network cable and firmware update got an old SynScan working again.
Problem:
With a used EQ5 Go-To mount and an old handheld, the handheld was giving intermittent and illogical error messages (like "Stand-Alone Use?"). After powering it on and off several times, it only worked sporadically.

Solution:
To ensure the EQ5 was working properly, we connected a different handheld. And lo and behold, the mount worked without a hitch. It quickly became apparent that the old handheld had outdated firmware and a loose cable.

New Cable
To be absolutely sure that the cable was the problem, we tried a different one, which made the handheld work flawlessly.
Tip: Unfortunately, the loose connection on the connectors or cables is often not visible. Past experience has also shown that soldering or clamping only provides temporary relief.
New original cables are available here: Skywatcher connection cable

Another alternative: You can replace the defective cable with a standard network cable. Network cables are available in different lengths and colors, as well as in different degrees of flexibility (short, long, rigid, or ultra-flexible). The network cable works immediately and offers more flexibility for individual preferences.
