Altair Hypercam 183M SW PRO TEC COOLED monochrome CMOS astro camera
The SONY Exmor R BSI IMX183 mono CMOS sensor was installed in this camera. The chip has a resolution of 5440x3648 pixels, which is almost 20 million pixels. As far as the number of pixels is concerned, the CMOS camera is one of the largest cameras currently available.

The camera can be cooled to a maximum of 45 °C below the ambient temperature. Due to the very low amplifier glow, the camera is ideally suited for astronomical applications. The back illumination technique makes the chip extremely light sensitive. The camera is equipped with a USB3.0+USB2.0 interface. An autoguider interface is of course available.

Suitable software is included in the scope of delivery and can be downloaded from Altair Astro Customer Support.

SharpCap PRO:
With the purchase of this camera you also get a user license for the program SharpCap 3.0 plus software SharpCap PRO (a program with many features especially for astrophotography) limited to 1 year.

Altair Astro has been working closely with SharpCap developer Robin Glover since 2015 to fully integrate the Altair cameras with SharpCap from the ground up. Now, Sharpcap PRO enables even more features with this camera, such as software-assisted polar alignment (more accurate than most other methods), live flat subtraction, and live dark frame subtraction. The fast, accurate polar alignment feature in SharpCap PRO is a lifesaver for photography, saving set-up time.

Important: Windows PC hardware requirements for best performance

♦ Minimum CPU: Equal to i5 or higher
♦ Minimum memory: 8 GB or more
♦ USB port: USB2.0 high speed port or USB3.0 high speed port (best performance)
♦ Please note: some laptops and touchscreen notebooks may not have sufficient USB throughput.

Peltier cooling:
Cooling reduces thermal noise during a long exposure. The internal thermoelectric cooling system can be controlled with the recording program, so you can select a working temperature (stored in the FITS header). The Hypercam is designed for consistent deep-sky recordings up to 45 °C below the ambient temperature, the appropriate temperature of the IMX183 sensor at Gain 400 is -10/15 °C absolute, below which no further improvements are to be expected.

Optical window with heating against fogging. Every precaution has been taken regarding the biggest problem of cooled cameras. The optical window is heated by special heaters to prevent fogging at low temperatures. To prevent frost from forming on the sensor, the sensor chamber is sealed and filled with dry air during manufacture. Inside the chamber is a stainless steel desiccant cartridge which can be regenerated by placing it in an oven at 120°C for a few hours after removing the small O-ring.
