New RGB single shot color camera with high quantum efficiency and high sensitivity in the near infrared range
Highlights of the new camera include:

Fast frame rates (120+ frames per second), with low noise (<1e-) at high gain,
high quantum efficiency in the red and near-infrared spectral regions, including UV/IR and IR850 filters for RGB, LRGB, IR and monochrome imaging with one camera.
Extremely low readout noise and fast image transfer with up to 120 frames/second
The new QHY5III-462C camera employs Sony's latest 2.1-megapixel IMX462 STARVIS 6th generation CMOS sensor. The pixel size is 2.9µ x 2.9µ, the same size and resolution as the sensor used in the QHY5III 290 camera (production has been discontinued), which is used so successfully for planetary imaging by some of the best planetary imagers in the world.

Like the other QHY5III series cameras, the QHY5III-462C is powered and controlled via USB 3.0. No additional power supply is required. The camera is only available as color version.

The IMX462C sensor is back-illuminated and has new features that give it two key advantages over competitor planetary cameras.

the IMX462 sensor features Sony sHGC (super high convert gain) technology, which enables extremely low readout noise (less than one electron) at high gain. The so-called SHCG pixels generate a much higher voltage than conventional image sensors even at the lowest charge (due to low light incidence) and thus provide a much stronger signal after analog/digital conversion. The resulting very good signal-to-noise ratio (SNR1s value) enables excellent imaging even at the weakest light intensities. The Sony sHGC technology is ideal for Lucky Imaging photography of Sun, Moon and planets as well as for DeepSky Lucky Imaging, as shorter exposure times with improved signal-to-noise ratio enable better image results. For images of solar system objects, the IMX462C sensor scores with the high download rates of the raw images.
IMX462 sensor is exceptionally sensitive in the near infrared spectral range (NIR). In this new generation of sensors, the photodiodes are conditioned to allow photons of longer spectral wavelengths to penetrate deeper into the substrate, dramatically increasing the pixel's sensitivity to red light and near-infrared light. The RGB filters over the pixel array become transparent at NIR wavelengths, giving the sensor nearly the same peak sensitivity to near-infrared light as to light in the visible spectrum.

Methane filter 1¼" (889nm, 8nm) (#2458295, ¤ 219.33).
The peak quantum efficiency in the near infrared around 800 nanometers is as high as the sensitivity in the visible wavelengths. This makes the new camera particularly interesting when taking planetary images with a methane bandpass filter at 880 nanometers. The QHY5III462C camera comes with two 1¼" screw-in filters. One UV/IR blocking filter provides visible wavelength isolation for normal single shot RGB color photography. The second filter is an IR 850 edge filter that blocks RGB wavelengths and reaches its highest transmittance at 875 nanometers, enabling monochrome near-infrared photography.

Innovative cooling concept
By incorporating four proprietary cooling segments with a larger diameter at the end of the camera, the cooling surface of the otherwise cylindrical camera housing is significantly increased. This results in faster and higher heat dissipation from the inner area of the camera to the outside air.

Together, this results in a camera module that can produce images with (a) visible light only or (b) NIR light only. If the UV/IR blocking filter is omitted, even (c) luminance images can be generated to produce L-RGB images. The prerequisite is that the imaging optics can image the visual as well as the infrared spectral range in one focal plane.
