Products description

Glaswegkorrektor® 1:1.70 for Baader binoculars with T-2 thread connection (Maxbright® and Maxbright® II)

Glaswegkorrektor® factor 1.7x. Optical Path Length: -65mm
Plug diameter: ∅ 38 mm
Suitable for screwing in the Baader Maxbright binocular (classic and MaxBright® II)
A Baader Glaswegkorrektor® is not a Barlow lens! The reason for the trademarked name is only secondarily the shift in focus!
First and foremost, the Glaswegkorrektor® has the task of correcting the prismatic color fringes, which would arise due to the large glass mass of the prisms in the binocular when used on refractors.
Note: The Baader MaxBright® II binocular incl. case (#2456460, ¤479) is the only Baader bino that allows you to switch between a Zeiss dovetail ring and a T-2 thread connection.

Glaswegkorrektor® (GWK) for binocular attachments and much more.
Glass path correctors for refractors, Newton and SC telescopes
A glass path corrector (GWK) fulfills two purposes: On the one hand, it eliminates the chromatic aberration caused by the prisms of the binocular attachment on fast optics, on the other hand, it shifts the focal point outwards so that telescopes with a low backfocus can be focused in the first place. With different glass path correctors you can also achieve different magnifications without buying a second pair of eyepieces.

GWK factor 1.25 / factor 1.70 / factor 2.60
These three glass path correctors are screwed into the binocular or T-2 prism. Which factor you need depends on the existing back focus. Information on determining the back focus can be found in the operating instructions for our binoviewers. Please also note our 2" glass path correctors especially for Newtonians or refractors/SCs.

The shortening of the optical path length was determined on the 2" focuser of the Traveler 105mm/f6 Apochromat with 35mm ED eyepieces, the large field binocular incl. 90° T-2 diagonal prism and the glass path correctors: The measurement was carried out with the Glaswegkorrektor® installed between the binocular and 90° prism If the lens system is installed in front of the prism, the focal point distance is reduced by about another 15mm.

Focal point distance (optical overall length) without correction with GWK 1:1.25 with GWK 1:1.70 with GWK 1:2.60
From the contact surface on the focuser - with 90° T-2 prism 162 mm (cannot be focused) 144 mm 122 mm 79 mm
straight-sighted with 2" socket (without prism, important for Newtonian mirror systems) 112 mm 94 mm 71 mm 28 mm
straight sight with T-2 quick coupler 123mm 105mm 82mm 39mm
With the help of these three lens systems, focusing problems can be solved in almost all common types of telescopes. The lens mount includes a connection thread for the Zeiss ring dovetail of our large field binocular and the MaxBright® II as well as a T-2 clamping flange for the MaxBright® and MaxBright® II! This flange can be clamped on any T-2 (M 42x075) threaded connection between the positive and negative threaded part and thus opens up unimagined possibilities for your own experiments (with accessories that could not be used on your own telescope until now).

Example of using glass path correctors on the Baader Safety Herschelkeil
Glass path correctors with factor 1.25 and 1.7

With these correctors, the lenses are cemented and can be removed from the socket and installed upside down. Here, for every type of application, the convex (curved outward) side of the lens must always face the telescope (or the sky) and be installed in the mount. The versions for T-2 connection and Zeiss dovetail ring differ only in the installation direction and can be converted if necessary.

Zeiss Ringschwalbe (large field binoviewer only applies to GK 1:1.25 and GK 1:1.7)

The 1.25x and 1.7x glass path correctors are screwed directly into the Zeiss micro adapter (dovetail ring) on the front of the binocular.

T-2 Union Nut (Maxbright® /Maxbright® II Binocular)
All glass path correctors are installed in lens position B (lens mount points away from the bino) in front of the binocular. Appropriate space or a screw thread are provided for this purpose in the T-2 prisms as well as in the 1¼" receptacles or in the 2" receptacle. In order to save optical length, the lens part of the Glaswegkorrektoren® is not inserted into the binocular, which means that the beam splitter of the binocular is as close as possible to the front edge of the binocular.

Telescopes with T-2 connection thread
Whenever you cannot reach the focus point with a new accessory because the focusing distance is not sufficient, you should try out whether our glass path corrector® is the solution. Almost every telescope manufacturer offers a T-2 connection for their devices. These adapters are usually very short because the T-2 thread is normally used for the focal connection of a 35mm camera. This is exactly where our Glaswegkorrektor® is installed!

We manufacture a large number of eyepiece clamps, spacer rings and adapters with a T-2 thread (e.g. the universal adapter and the T-2 intermediate ring with a length of 40mm or 15mm, so that the right connection can almost always be put together.

camera lenses
Perhaps you still have a lens with a T-2 connection thread. With many "third-party lenses" (e.g. Tokina, Soligor, Vivitar, etc.) the bayonet ring can be removed and a T-2 thread appears. With the Glaswegkorrektor® and our T-2 sliding focusing tube or the eyepiece tube 1¼"/T-2 you can use your existing 1¼" diagonal prism and usually all 1¼" eyepieces with the camera lens visually!
