The Eyepiece

The eyepiece is a very important part of the telescope, as it is the eye-side optical part of the telescope. This may consist of one or more lenses. This feature also significantly affects the quality of the image of the eyepiece.

To calculate the magnification of a telescope, divide the focal length of the telescope in millimeters by the focal length of the eyepiece in millimeters.

Important for the Okularwahl is also the calculation of the AP (exit pupil). This is calculated by dividing the diameter of the lens in millimeters by the respective magnification. If this is chosen too large, valuable light is lost because the iris of the eye can not absorb it. For example, children have an entrance pupil of about 8mm, while adults around 50 years often have only an EP of 5mm.

You can test some of the eyepieces we offer on site in the shop near Munich. So you can learn how the respective eyepiece on certain telescopes and maps differences even recognize. Especially in astronomy is observed with high magnifications and so the quality of the eyepieces and telescopes and own experience in the astronomical observation is important.

Every star friend perceives the different eyepieces differently during observation. There is not the eyepiece for everyone. And each eyepiece has its different purpose and depending on experience in the observation can be seen with special eyepieces still a lot of details.
